I’ve always been fascinated by decision-making. For example, why did I spend a year’s worth of allowance in sixth grade on a skateboard...when I didn’t even know how to skate? Why did I think shaving my head completely bald in high school was a good look? I still don’t have newsworthy answers to those questions, so I’m relieved that I ge
I’ve always been fascinated by decision-making. For example, why did I spend a year’s worth of allowance in sixth grade on a skateboard...when I didn’t even know how to skate? Why did I think shaving my head completely bald in high school was a good look? I still don’t have newsworthy answers to those questions, so I’m relieved that I get to spend all my time behind the microphone dissecting things other people did. It’s less embarrassing that way.
Bad money decisions were essentially forbidden in my household growing up. Being raised by a financial advisor will do that to a guy. Living with my advisor father and spending every summer break throughout high school interning in his office were enough to make me never want to hear the words “money” or “decisions” again. So, after high school, I ran on down to Aggieland. I graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Agricultural Economics. I jokingly tell people that I picked my major because it was the first alphabetically. Once I showed up in College Station, I was surprised to find that Texas A&M had a Financial Planning program…located in the Agricultural Economics department. Call it divine intervention or call it the worst escape plan of all time; either way, I’m now a financial advisor who lives and breathes money decisions.

I have been in the financial services industry since 1989, and have been recognized by major publications like Barron’s, Forbes, Financial Times, and Texas Monthly. After working in the industry for three decades, you accumulate professional designations. So, I have my CFP, ChFC, APMA, BFA, and CKA. My business card looks like alphabet soup. When it comes to our objective here on Decidedly, the most relevant accreditation is the BFA - the Behavioral Financial Advisor designation, dissecting the "why" behind money decisions.
The study of how we make decisions fascinates me, primarily in its application to my profession as a financial advisor and business coach. I have found that the most important factor in determining someone's success is how that person makes decisions. Over the years, I have led clients through some great decisions and stood by shaking my head as they made poor ones. My hope is that Decidedly can share stories with you that bring you closer to making your most aligned decisions yet.
